Bonnie is a free app to split costs in a group. It is published by appgrid.eu. This page explains which data the app handles and why.
In short
- No account, no email address, no password.
- No ads, no analytics and no tracking.
- Only the data needed to sync a group between its members is stored.
Data the app stores
To share a group between phones, the following is stored on appgrid's own server in the Netherlands:
- Group data you enter: the group name, the names of members as typed in, expenses (description, amount, currency, category, date, who paid and how it is split) and recorded payments.
- Receipt photos, only if you keep them: when you scan a receipt, the text is read on your phone. The photo is stored with the expense only if you leave "Keep the photo with the expense" switched on, so the other members can look at it. Anyone in the group can delete it again.
- An anonymous device identifier: a random ID created when you first open the app. It is used to decide which groups your phone may read and change, and to remember which member name you marked as yours. It is not linked to your name, email address, phone number or advertising ID.
Everyone who has the code of a group can join it and see and change its data. Share the code only with people who belong in the group.
Data that stays on your phone
Your language setting, recently used currencies and a copy of your groups for offline use are stored on your phone only.
Service providers
- Hosting: the data described above is stored and synced by a server that appgrid.eu runs itself; no cloud database or other processor is involved. When your phone connects, the server processes technical data such as your IP address to deliver and secure the service.
- ExchangeRate-API provides daily exchange rates. The app downloads a public list of rates; no information about you or your groups is sent, other than the technical data that is part of any internet request, such as your IP address.
Why this data is processed
The data is processed only to provide the app to you and the other members of your groups (performance of the service you ask for). It is not sold, not used for advertising and not shared with anyone else.
How long data is kept
Group data is kept for as long as at least one phone is in the group, so that all members keep access to it. A group that you archive stays on your phone for one year; after that your phone leaves it automatically. When the last phone has left a group, the group and its receipt photos are deleted from the server 30 days later. You can remove your own connection to a group at any time, see below.
Deleting your data
In the app, go to Settings and choose Delete my data. Your phone then leaves all groups, is disconnected from the member names and expenses it added, and its anonymous identifier is deleted. Expenses stay in the group for the other members. To have a whole group deleted, or for any other request, email us.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete and receive the data that relates to you, and to object to or restrict its processing. Email us to use these rights. You can also lodge a complaint with the data protection authority in your country.
Children
Bonnie is not directed at children under 13.
